Under the hood, Genesis will offer a 248-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four that generates 260 lb-ft of torque as the base engine. Genesis claims the V-6 can run from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 167 mph. Genesis did not give performance numbers for the turbo-four.

The emerging Korean luxury brand however has no immediate plan to launch the Genesis brand in Europe or China. In late 2015, Hyundai Motor launched Genesis as a separate premium brand in a bid to improve the reputation of a brand long associated with vehicles that are cheap but durable enough to be a good value for the money. With Genesis, Hyundai followed other Japanese car brands' footsteps, such as Toyota's Lexus and Nissan's Infiniti.
The G70 is the third model by Genesis, which aims to add three more by 2021 including a sports utility vehicle. Hyundai said it sold 150,000 Genesis cars in the last two years.

Hyundai has been spotted testing a left-hand drive evaluation version of the upcoming Genesis G70 sedan by an eagle-eyed Wheels reader in Victoria.
Hyundai carries out local suspension tuning for a range of its vehicles, including the Genesis G80 limousine currently on sale here. The Genesis G70 is expected to use the same 190kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 engines as the recently-revealed Kia Stinger, with an eight-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. The mid-size luxury sedan is underpinned by a tweaked version of the Genesis G80 platform, co-developed and shared with corporate compatriot Kia and also used by the Kia Stinger. It's expected G70 will follow Stinger and be built in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations for left-hand drive markets, whereas Australian delivered models will be rear-drive only. Hyundai has unveiled the car it believes can take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3-Series - the all-new Genesis G70.
It is expected to be offered alongside an updated version of the large sedan currently badged as the Hyundai Genesis, which will then be known as the Genesis G80.
The G70 is based on the same underpinnings as the new Kia Stinger, offering a rear-wheel drive platform for the Korean brand to take on the established German luxury brands and Lexus.
Neither will the all-wheel drive models that are available in selected markets.
While Genesis has already been established in the South Korean and US markets, the G70 is an important model for the brand by introducing it into the lower tier in the luxury market.
The launch of the Genesis G70 is an important milestone for our brand, said Manfred Fitzgerald, Head of Genesis Division. A Hyundai spokesman confirmed that the company has selected 28 Hyundai dealers to become the initial Genesis outlets. Genesis has plans to add two SUVs by 2021 alongside the existing sedan range that includes the G80 and larger G90 in the Korean and US markets.

Some luxury consumers-including my Genesis-3.8-driving father-seek out something different when buying a new car, but what does the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport offer midsize luxury sedan buyers?
The G80 Sport's all-wheel-drive system can send 90 percent to the rear wheels in Sport mode (depending on what's needed and how the car is being driven) and can send 100 percent of the torque to the front wheels in Escape mode, if the car is stuck in snow or ice. In rear-drive form, that's more than 600 pounds heftier than the six-cylinder models of the Lexus GS and BMW 5 Series , both cars in the G80's competitive set. Hyundai Motor Group plans to introduce 28 eco-vehicles by 2020 across the Hyundai, Genesis and Kia brands. During the same time frame, the company also plans to introduce the Genesis G70 sedan, a coupe and two crossovers. Hyundai took note. In just six years, Hyundai's global sales soared 74% to 4.06 million vehicles in 2011 from 2.34 million in 2005. Wary of the pace, Hyundai began tapping the brakes.
Hyundai also shifted product development away from vehicle-based programs toward more efficient processes based on vehicle groups and component systems.
Hyundai may also make inroads into performance vehicles. Hopefully Hyundai is in it for the long haul, because that's what the company is facing no matter how good Genesis is.
Eco-cars
When it comes to eco-cars, the company is clearly channeling Hyundai Speed.

Hyundai Australia chief operating officer Scott Grant told MOTOR that the Genesis G70 will have a clear and unabashed sports-performance focus compared with the limousine-like Hyundai Genesis, which will soon be rebadged Genesis G80.
I drive a Genesis now, it's quite a large car, it's beautifully finished, but it's not necessarily a sporting drive where I think the G70 will have a more performance orientation.
How serious is Hyundai about creating its Genesis sub-brand as a formidable rival to the established Germans? Well, it has poached former Lamborghini design and brand director Manfred Fitzgerald as Genesis senior vice president, and nabbed former Bugatti designer Alexander Selipanov as Genesis chief designer.
Although the local boss refused to be drawn into the important pricing questions - how much more expensive the Genesis G70 will be compared with the Kia, and how much cheaper a Genesis G70 will be compared with German rivals - he strongly hinted that the G70 may not be cheaper than the larger Hyundai Genesis/G80.

The new Genesis G70 sport sedan has been leaked in a series of images ahead of its debut later this month.
The G70 will share its rear-wheel drive platform and turbocharged engine range with the Kia Stinger. Hyundai has been spotted testing a left-hand drive evaluation version of the upcoming Genesis G70 sedan by an eagle-eyed Wheels reader in Victoria.
Hyundai carries out local suspension tuning for a range of its vehicles, including the Genesis G80 limousine currently on sale here. The Genesis G70 is expected to use the same 190kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 engines as the recently-revealed Kia Stinger, with an eight-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels. The mid-size luxury sedan is underpinned by a tweaked version of the Genesis G80 platform, co-developed and shared with corporate compatriot Kia and also used by the Kia Stinger. It's expected G70 will follow Stinger and be built in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations for left-hand drive markets, whereas Australian delivered models will be rear-drive only. Hyundai has unveiled the car it believes can take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3-Series - the all-new Genesis G70.
It is expected to be offered alongside an updated version of the large sedan currently badged as the Hyundai Genesis, which will then be known as the Genesis G80.
The G70 is based on the same underpinnings as the new Kia Stinger, offering a rear-wheel drive platform for the Korean brand to take on the established German luxury brands and Lexus.
Neither will the all-wheel drive models that are available in selected markets.
While Genesis has already been established in the South Korean and US markets, the G70 is an important model for the brand by introducing it into the lower tier in the luxury market.
The launch of the Genesis G70 is an important milestone for our brand, said Manfred Fitzgerald, Head of Genesis Division. A Hyundai spokesman confirmed that the company has selected 28 Hyundai dealers to become the initial Genesis outlets. Genesis has plans to add two SUVs by 2021 alongside the existing sedan range that includes the G80 and larger G90 in the Korean and US markets.

Recipe for streamline car maker to enter luxury water was pretty clear. Initially, the formation of new luxury Genesis brand was planned in 2004, but then in 2008 Koreans launched Hyundai Genesis just as a model in sedan and coupe shape.
Sedan carried Genesis badge, although it had prefix Hyundai? While coupe was also having Genesis part of the name, carried Hyundai logo? Flagship model Equus was also Hyundai, but badge was again Genesis. Finally in 2015 Hyundai pull itself together and formed separate Genesis brand. With the new 2018 G80 3.3T Sport, Genesis extends its reach with a powerful and sporty variant of a comfortably sized sedan that made its debut as the Hyundai Genesis for the 2015 model year before being renamed G80. Some luxury consumers-including my Genesis-3.8-driving father-seek out something different when buying a new car, but what does the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport offer midsize luxury sedan buyers?
The G80 Sport's all-wheel-drive system can send 90 percent to the rear wheels in Sport mode (depending on what's needed and how the car is being driven) and can send 100 percent of the torque to the front wheels in Escape mode, if the car is stuck in snow or ice. In rear-drive form, that's more than 600 pounds heftier than the six-cylinder models of the Lexus GS and BMW 5 Series , both cars in the G80's competitive set. Motor Trend tested a G80 3.8 AWD (back when it was called the Hyundai Genesis 3.8) accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, and we've tested a rear-drive eight-cylinder model reaching 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. The smaller rear-drive 2017 Lexus GS 350 F Sport is rated 19/27 mpg city/highway, better than the G80 Sport's 17/25 mpg (or 24 mpg highway with all-wheel drive). For a luxury sedan under $60,000, the Genesis G80 Sport offers no compromises in terms of interior comfort or features, but the performance upgrades can only take the heavy sedan so far. 2018 Genesis G70

Hyundai Motor Group plans to introduce 28 eco-vehicles by 2020 across the Hyundai, Genesis and Kia brands. During the same time frame, the company also plans to introduce the Genesis G70 sedan, a coupe and two crossovers. Hyundai took note. In just six years, Hyundai's global sales soared 74% to 4.06 million vehicles in 2011 from 2.34 million in 2005. Wary of the pace, Hyundai began tapping the brakes.
Hyundai also shifted product development away from vehicle-based programs toward more efficient processes based on vehicle groups and component systems.
Hyundai may also make inroads into performance vehicles. Hopefully Hyundai is in it for the long haul, because that's what the company is facing no matter how good Genesis is.
Eco-cars
