Honda's smallest of vehicles—the Fit hatchback—has received several updates for the new model year, its fourth for the current-generation version.

Speaking of sport, the Fit's new Sport trim nestles between the LX and EX and includes what Honda calls a sporty look to the front fascia. The Honda Fit Sport models also receive exclusive, 16-inch wheels finished in black, chrome exhaust, and a rear diffuser with similar bright orange highlights found at the front.

The biggest news for Fit buyers is the addition of Honda's Sensing safety suite of equipment as an option. It adds adaptive cruise control, a brake mitigation system, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and road departure mitigation and warning systems.

The Honda Sensing suite is available on the LX and Sport trims, but its now standard equipment on EX trims and greater.

That premium audio system is standard on the EX and EX-L models, along with the new Fit Sport.

Honda hasn't revealed if the 2018 updates include changes to the powertrain, but the Fit is already an efficient gasoline vehicle.

With sales still outpacing inventory, Honda has decided to give the Fit a mild update for the 2018 model year. This model will gain new aerodynamic features on the front, sides and rear, and a sharper front splitter with bright-orange highlights. Honda's subcompact hatch will receive a bolder design and a bright-orange color option for the 2018 model year. Arriving in July, the 2018 Honda Fit will also add a new trim level and Honda Sensing safety technologies.

For 2018, the Fit adds a Sport trim positioned just above the base LX. This new model features aerodynamic styling flourishes at the front, side, and rear.
